IMO's environmental efforts

Over a number of years, the IMO has adopted a wide range of measures to prevent and control pollution caused by ships and to limit the consequences of any damage that may occur as a result of maritime operations and accidents. Of the 51 treaties adopted by the IMO so far, 21 are directly related to the environment.

IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC)

The MEPC (Marine Environment Protection Committee) is the IMO's lead committee for issues related to marine pollution. In addition, there are a number of sub-committees working on more specialised matters.
