The change towards more sustainability will have a major impact on the choice of maritime technology in the future, and there is rapid technological development within digitalisation, propulsion, fuels and autonomy. The Norwegian Maritime Authority aims to be a catalyst for development. By using our in-house expertise in close collaboration with industry partners, we are a driving force for new technology, facilitating progress and maintaining Norway's position as a world leading shipping nation.

Centre for new technology The NMA's Centre for new technology gathers expertise from across the breadth of the NMA and is committed to supporting customers on their journey towards safe and green solutions.

Maritime cyber security Cyber threats and vulnerabilities are constantly evolving in the maritime industry. This is why the NMA has set up a dedicated department for maritime cyber security.

Optimalisation and digitalisation There is growing interest in autonomous, digital and smart ships. We have expertise and resources in this area.

Developing legislation We focus on finding optimal testing solutions for new technology based on the safety requirements that apply to existing technology.
