Deletion of vessels from NIS and NOR

Dual registration is not permitted for vessels registered in the Norwegian Ship Registers NIS/ NOR. Accordingly, vessels must be deleted upon transferal to a new register. Deletion must also take place when a vessel has been, or will be, broken up, is lost at sea etc., ref. the Norwegian Maritime Code of 24 June 1994 No. 39 S. 28.

Deletion from the Shipbuilding Register

A ship or a building contract shall be deleted when the ship is delivered by the builder or, if the ship has been built on the builder’s own account, when the ship enters service. If a ship is lost during construction, it shall be deleted. The same applies to a building contract which ceases to be binding, ref. the Norwegian Maritime Code of 24 June 1994 No. 39 S. 32.

Notification is to be sent to the NIS/ NOR as soon as possible and within 30 days of the change ref. the Norwegian Maritime Code of 24 June 1994 No. 39  S.13.
