Vessel types

The NMA recognizes five separate groups of vessels: Passenger vessels, cargo vessels, mobile offshore units, fishing vessels and recreational craft.

Passenger vessels

Cargo vessels The section verifies and hands out appropriate documents in addition to offering operational and technical support to the business. The section also has the responsibility of revising the different class-categories and has the overall control of the business.

Mobile offshore units A MOU is a floating mobile offshore unit, which is used for petroleum activities in connection with subsea petroleum deposits, such as drilling units, accommodation units, FSOs, FPSOs, FDPSOs, and well intervention units.

Fishing vessels

Vessels carrying 12 passengers or less New Regulations on vessels of less than 24 metres carrying 12 passengers or less enter into force on 1 February 2020. These Regulations continue the main elements of the former Regulations of 24 November 2009 No. 1400, which is now repealed.
