As one of the world's leading maritime nations, Norway strives to be a leader for safe and environmentally friendly shipping. The Norwegian Maritime Authority is an initiator in the development of new international regulations.  Decisions in the EU and other shipping organisations are increasingly important for the Norwegian maritime legislation. The Authority has an important task with, for instance, ensuring proper follow-up and national adaption of international rules that are to be implemented in Norwegian law.
