Air Pollution

We would like to provide some information regarding the new requirements on air pollution:
The provisions apply to all ships of 400 gross tonnage and above engaged on international voyages. As from 1 January 2013 these ships shall keep on board a ship specific Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP). Verification that the SEEMP is on board will take place at the first intermediate or renewal survey of the IAPP certificate after 1 January 2013. (Please note that a possible Unified Interpretation at MEPC 64 in October 2012 may lead to some adjustments here.) IMO has developed guidelines, cf. resolution MEPC.213(63) «Guidelines for the Development of a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)».

Attained Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) shall be calculated for new ships. The formulas required for deriving the EEDI are contained in resolution MEPC.212(63) «Guidelines on the Method of Calculation of the Attained Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for New Ships».

An International Energy Efficiency Certificate (IEE) for the ship shall be issued after survey. Norway will delegate such relevant surveys and the issuance of the IEE certificate to the recognized organizations for both NIS and NOR ships classed in a recognized classification society. For new ships, which are not classed in a recognized classification society, the Norwegian Maritime Authority will issue a certificate based on documentation on calculated attained EEDI verified by a recognized organization.

Garbage

Furthermore, please note that the provisions regarding garbage are altered. As from 1 January 2013 the provisions are more stringent.
