The requirements are stated in Regulations of 5 June 2014 No. 805 on  medical examination of employees on  Norwegian ships and mobile offshore units section 19.

The regulations, which came into force 1 July 2014, granted seafarer’s doctors a transitional period of five years to comply with these requirements.

To maintain their approval, seafarer’s doctors to whom this information applies, must therefore comply with the requirements within 1 July 2019.

The following documentation on fulfilled requirements must be sent to the foreign service mission:

  1. The form "KS-0418 Self-declaration - Seafarer’s doctor
  2. Diploma from the basic course for NMA seafarer’s doctors.

Please note that a completed course and implemented quality system not automatically leads to a granted renewed approval next time you apply.

The foreign service mission will consider if there still is a need for a seafarer`s doctor in the area to conduct medical examinations on employees on Norwegian ships and mobile offshore units, and they will also check whether the other requirements in the regulations are fulfilled satisfactorily.
