Harmonised Implementation of Revised IMO Guidelines and Specifications for Pollution Prevention Equipment for Machinery Space Bilges

This Circular communicates the requirements established by MEPC.1/Circ. 641, MEPC.1/Circ. 642 and MEPC.1/Circ. 643 concerning type approval of bilge and sludge handling systems cf. MARPOL Annex I Chapter ,3 Regulation 12 and the harmonised implementation of revised guidelines.

Unless otherwise stated, requirements detailed in MEPC.1/Circ. 641, MEPC.1/Circ. 642 and MEPC.1/Circ. 643 apply to all ships of 400 gross tonnage and above.

MEPC.1/Circ 641, MEPC.1/Circ 642, MEPC.1/Circ 643

The MEPC circulars referred above, detail the background for NIS/NOR Circular 5/2009

Item

MEPC.1/Circ.641. The supplementary guidelines annexed to MEPC.1/Circ.641 shall be applied.

MEPC.1/Circ.642. The revised 2008 guidelines for systems for handling oily wastes in machinery spaces of ships incorporating guidance notes for an integrated bilge water treatment system supersedes and replaces the Revised Guidelines appended to MEPC.1/Circ.511.

MEPC.1/Circ.643. The Guidance notes annexed to MEPC.1/643 shall be used when implementing the requirements of resolution MEPC.107(49) and testing pollution equipment for type-approval.
