Ever since the merger of the Ship Registers and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate took place on January 1st this year, we have worked towards the integration of the ship search on the Authority's new website. During this period, the search has only been available on the Ship Registers' old site.
The search option continues to be free of charge and available in Norwegian and English.
You will find the option through the global search on the top of www.sjofartsdir.no/en/.
Enter your search criteria such as call sign, IMO number, vessel name or other.
The result leads you to a new link, "Search the ship registers NIS/NOR." Follow this for further options and limitations. Vessel information includes vessel details, ownership and registered encumbrances (if any). Information about last issued Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR) for a specific vessel may also be obtained.
If you wish an indication as to whether or not a ship name is available prior to sending in an application for certificate of name, the search may also be used for this.
