The fact that Norway has qualified to remain on the list Qualship 21 (Quality Shipping for the 21st Century) shows that the ships flying the Norwegian flag are high-quality ships.

- This is important both for Norway as flag State and for the companies choosing to fly the Norwegian flag, says Director General of Navigation and Shipping, Olav Akselsen, in a comment to the report from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Qualship 21 list is based on the number of detentions resulting from Port State Controls in U.S. ports. In order to make the list, the detention ratio has to be below 1 per cent on average over the last three years.

- The fact that Norway keeps its position on this list shows that Norwegian ships are high-quality ships – a fact that not only promotes the Norwegian flag, but is also significant for safety, says Alf Tore Sørheim, Head of Section for Inspection and Emergency Preparedness at the Norwegian Maritime Authority.
