Important safety alert for owners of Dolmøy 230 Fisker recreational craft
The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) warns owners of Dolmøy 230 Fisker boats produced before 2017, following repeated fatal accidents involving this boat model. Owners are strongly encouraged to ensure that critical weaknesses in stability and drainage have been properly addressed.
After a tragig accident near Kråkenes lighthouse 4 May this year, in which three people lost their lives, the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority has revealed that this boat type may have serious structural weaknesses. These weaknesses were perviously identified in 2014, but some boats may still not have been properly modified.
There are up to 132 vessels of this model currently in circulation in Norway.
What should you do as a boat owner?
If your boat is a Dolmøy 230 Fisker produced before 2017, you are strongly advised to:
- Review the list of required modifications found in the saety notice. These include raising the step-in height, improving drainage and sealing, and installing an independent water intrusion alarm system.
- Check that previously required modifications have been completed. These include sealing against water ingress, correct labelling og passenger capacity, and maximum load, removal of pot haulers, and protection against the spread of gasoline vapours in boats with movable steering consoles.
- Ensure that all modifications have been carried out and documented.
A detailed description of the required changes is available in the safety notice.
You can find the boat's production year via the WIN number (on the hull, starboard aft). Example: K516 as the last four characters means produced in November (K), 2015 (5), model year 2016 (16).
