CLB and CLC applications simplified
The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) and the insurance company Gard AS have successfully completed a pilot project aimed at simplifying the application process for shipping companies. With this new solution, insurance certificates and certifications (CLC and CLB) can now be renewed simultaneously.
CLB/CLC: Through its customer portal, Gard now offers a streamlined service enabling customers to renew their insurance certificates while simultaneously applying for the issuance of insurance certifications.
"The solution has been developed with the customer’s needs at its core, and we believe it will greatly benefit the maritime industry. This initiative is the result of a collaborative focus on digitalisation. Shipping companies will enjoy a simpler and more efficient application process, as insurance certificates and other certifications can now be renewed together", says Alf Tore Sørheim, Interim Director General of Shipping and Navigation.

How it works
Shortly after placing an order, the certificate will be sent to the email address provided by the applicant in Gard's customer portal. Once the certificate becomes valid, it will also be accessible via "My Vessels".
"Currently, this service is available to Gard’s customers renewing existing insurance agreements. We aim to expand the solution and hope that more insurance companies will gradually adopt and offer it to their customers", says Tove Aarekol, Senior Adviser at the Section for Inspection and Emergency Preparedness.
