A diploma for recreational skipper (D5L/D5LA), D6 or higher is approved in an application for a fishing skipper class C certificate. This cannot be older than 5 years at the date of application.

Health requirements for a class C fishing skipper's licence can be documented in several ways.
We recommend that this health certificate form is used for those who are going to apply for a class C fishing skipper's license.
Or you can document the health requirement by:- A valid medical certificate from an approved seafarer's doctor, or
- A statement from a doctor confirming that the health requirements in Sections 30 and 29 third paragraph of the Qualifications Regulations are met, or
- Form for a category B driving licence, which must also be provided that you have sufficient colour vision and hearing in accordance with Sections 30 and 29 third paragraph of the Qualifications Regulations.

There is a requirement for 12 months of seagoing service on deck on board fishing vessels with a maximum length of 10.67 metres or greater in order to be issued Fishing Skipper Class C.
It is not possible to replace parts or the entire seagoing service requirement with a practical test for D6.

To renew Fishing Skipper Class C, there is a requirement for 12 months of seagoing service in the last 5 years, with a valid certificate as skipper/mate on board fishing vessels with a maximum length between 8 – 15 meters.
