Vessels Used by Educational Institutions

A new regulation concerning vessels used by educational institutions entered into force on 1 October 2022. This section contains information about the regulation and the registration form for companies.

The regulation applies to Norwegian vessels with 35 or fewer persons on board that are used by educational institutions.

The vessel must have a maximum length of less than 24 metres, operate in domestic voyages, and sail at a maximum speed of 15 knots.
Persons on board who are not part of the crew must be affiliated with the educational institution.

An educational institution is defined as an institution governed by the Kindergarten Act, the Education Act, the Independent Schools Act, or the Folk High School Act.

Requirement to Register the Company

Vessels operating under this regulation are not certified by the Norwegian Maritime Authority. However, before any passenger transport takes place, the shipping company must register information about the operation on this page.
