Passenger Ships on international voyages

The Passenger Ship Safety Certificate (see section 6) the vessel’s main certificate, authorizing it to operate within a specified sea area.

Inspection of Passenger Ships on International voyages

The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) conducts inspections prior to issuing a certificate.

The inspection consists of two components:

  • Onboard physical inspections
  • Review of vessel documentation

Issuance of the certificate is contingent upon compliance with the applicable regulations.

Vessels holding a valid certificate that is due for renewal must request an inspection well in advance of the expiry date stated in the certificate.

Reconstruction or modification of Passenger Ships on international voyages

The shipping company must notify the Norwegian Maritime Authority once an agreement for conversion has been entered into.
