The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) carries out inspections prior to the issuance of a certificate.

The inspection consists of two components:

  • Physical inspection onboard the vessel
  • Verification of vessel documentation

Issuance of the certificate is subject to compliance with the applicable regulations.

Vessels that already hold a valid certificate due for renewal must request an inspection well in advance of the expiry date stated on the certificate.

The shipping company must notify the Norwegian Maritime Authority once an agreement for the reconstruction or modification of a craft has been entered into.
