Manning of Ships

A vessel requires a certain number of crew members with specific qualifications in order to operate safely. The safe manning refers to the portion of the crew necessary to ensure the safety of the vessel and those on board, as well as to prevent pollution of the marine environment. The Norwegian Maritime Authority determines the safe manning level in a Safe Manning Certificate, based on an application submitted by the shipowner.
