New system makes endorsement applications easier and faster

The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) has launched a new and secure online application system for endorsements, streamlining the entire process.

Through the new portal, shipping companies and crewing agencies may:

  • complete applications;
  • upload required supporting documentation;
  • pay applicable fees directly online or via organisational transfer;
  • monitor the status of applications in real time; and
  • access an overview of issued endorsements and Certificates of Recognition (CRA).

Easier for everyone

The system is more user-friendly than the previous system and provides a clearer, more transparent process with reduced risk of errors and delays. The new portal also makes it easier for foreign crewing agencies to create and complete applications.

  • Important change: Endorsements are now issued in electronic format only. Plastic cards will no longer be produced. Electronic endorsements may be retrieved and verified via “My Page for seafarers”. They do not contain a photograph or signature.

Safe and efficient

"We encourage all shipping companies and crewing agencies to use the new portal. The aim is to simplify processes for our clients while ensuring efficient and secure case handling. With the new system, the entire process may be completed digitally, without unnecessary delays," says Therese Landås, Head of Section of Seafarers.

Nearly 8,000 applications processed last year

So far this year, the NMA has processed 4,461 endorsements. The total number last year was 7,680.

"Under the old system, the average processing time was around 25 days. We expect this to be significantly reduced with the new system," says Senior Engineer Jørgen Eielsen.
