Do you have a maritime certificate or licence? Here is what you need to know about the transition from Telenor Kystradio to the Norwegian Maritime Authority
We are working hard to make this transition as smooth and predictable as possible for our customers. Please take not of the following important dates related to the application process for certificates and licences in December and into the new year.
12 December 2025
On this date, Telenor Kystradio will close its systems. Any changes made after this date will be handled manually until the transfer has been completed.
6 January 2026
From Tuesday 6 January, the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) will begin processing maritime personal radio certificates and endorsements.
"We encourage anyone who needs a new certificate to wait until 6 January 2026, if possible," says Therese Landås, Head of Section of Seafarers.
How applications will be handled during the transition period:
- SRC/LRC: Exceptions may be made during this period for professional needs.
- GMDSS: Certificates expiring after January will not be processed manually or in Telenor's systems. These applications must be submitted via the NMA's solution for seafarers from 6 January 2026.
- Endorsements: If you do not need an endorsement before 15 January 2026, please use the NMA's solution for seafarers from 6 January 2026.
- CRA: Between 12 and 31 December 2025, these will be processed manually at no cost to the applicant. All payments will be made after the application process with the NMA in 2026. We kindly ask that only strictly necessary applications are submitted during this period.
Licences
Between 8 and 31 December, it will generally not be possible to make changes to equipment in lincences, except for vessels engaged in international voyages.
Equipment changes will be recorded manually by Telenor Kystradio, and we ask licence holders to verify that changes are correct after the transition to the new NMA system from 1 January 2026.
This can be done by signing in to "My vessels".
"To reduce the risk of lost information during the transfer between the two organisations, we encourage everyone who can to postpone changes until the new year," says Landår.
Training
The Norwegian Maritime Authority's assessment is that examinations, grading and appeals should be managed by training institutions. These institutions may implement this through arrangement similar to the current examination boards or exam consortia.
Institutions providing ROC/GOC training can, in collaboration with at least two (2) other parties, conduct written and parctical/oral examinations.
The model will be harmonised and follow the same principles required for upper secondary schools, vocational colleges, higher education institutions and universities today.
If training institutions, for various reasons, are unable to establish such an arrangement, they may use external providers offering these services, such as Radioinspeksjonen. In such cases, this will be based on an agreement between the training institution and the service provider.
