Give your feedback in the survey on maritime safety

The 2025 edition ofthe survey on maritime safety is now distributed to seafarers in the maritime industry. This survey builds on equivalent surveys from 2018, 2021 and 2023.

MARITIME SAFETY: A key part of the 2025 survey will be the follow up of findings from 2023, where major challenges related to the psychosocial working environment, particularly bullying and harrassment, were uncovered. The aim is to get a deeper insight into this.

A voice for the seafarers

On assignment from the Norwegian Maritime Authority ((NMA), the consulting company Safetec is responsible for conducting the survey.

"In essence, this survey is an opportunity for individual seafarers to voice their opinion to the NMA and to tell us how they are doing at work. The results from the last survey in 2023 were for instance used to focus on psychosocial working environments and harassment throughout 2024. They were also used in the work on the vision of zero fatalities, and in the development of measures to reduce the number of fatalities and severely injured persons at sea," says project manager Sverre Flatebø at the NMA.

We hope many will respond

He encourages all seafarers to respond to the survey, and shipping companies to motivate and facilitate for the participation of their employees.

"All shipping companies will be able to order a report with the results for their organisation only, so that they will have the best possible insight into their own standing in these matters. The results can also be compared with other shipping companies in corresponding vessel groups," says Flatebø.

He stresses that all employees will remain anonymous and personal information will not be disclosed. No report is provided for fewer than 10 responses in a shipping company, and no free text that could reveal who has responded is shared.
