- The ROC is valid for operating all types of GMDSS radio equipment in sea area A1.
- The LRC is required if you intend to use MF or HF radio on board recreational vessels and/or non-SOLAS vessels.

A holder of a GOC who does not meet the required seagoing service from sea area A2 or higher, but has sufficient seagoing service from A1, may choose to apply for the ROC instead.
-
These certificates are valid for five (5) and must be renewed.
You may renew in one of the following ways:- Seagoing service on vessels operating in sea area A1
- Completion of a refresher course
- Practical service in a supernumerary position on board
-
You may document your seagoing service in one of the following ways:
- The company reports the seagoing service electronically
- The company confirms the seagoing service in writing, and you upload the document as an attachment when applying for the certificate
The Norwegian Maritime Authority is not able to register seagoing service for individuals if the company/employer does not report it.
Seagoing service uploaded as an attachment to the application will, in many cases, not appear in the seagoing service overview in "My Page Seafarers".
If you have completed a course instead of using seagoing service to renew your ROC or GOC, the training institution/course provider will register this with the NMA. Once the course has been registered, you may apply for the certificate.
