Passenger Ships (with Length Overall Less Than 15 Meters)
The Passenger Certificate (see section 20) is the vessel’s main certificate, granting it the right to operate within a specified trade area.
Inspection of Passenger Ships (with Length Overall Less Than 15 Meters)
The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) conducts inspections prior to issuing a certificate.
The inspection consists of two components:
• Physical inspection on board the vessel
• Verification of vessel documentation
Issuance of the certificate is contingent upon compliance with the applicable regulations.
Vessels holding a valid certificate that is due for renewal must request for supervision well in advance of the expiry date stated in the certificate.

Rebuilding or Modification of Passenger Ships on International Voyages
The shipping company must notify the Norwegian Maritime Authority when an agreement for the conversion of a vessel has been entered into.
