Recognised organisations
The Norwegian Maritime Authority is in charge of inspections of Norwegian ships. Inspections and supervisions may, however, be delegated to the recognised classification societies.
The following 6 classification societies are authorised to carry out surveys and inspections and issue statutory certificates – as applicable – on behalf of the Norwegian administration:
- American Bureau of Shipping - ABS
- Bureau Veritas - BV
- DNV AS
- Lloyds Register of Shipping
- RINA S.p.A - RINA
- Nippon Kaiji Kyokai - ClassNK
