Deletion of a vessel from NOR/NIS/BYGG

  • Deletion from the shipbuilding register (BYGG)

Ships and construction contracts entered in BYGG shall be deleted when the ship is delivered from the shipyard, or, if the shipyard has built for its own account, when the ship is put into service. If a ship under construction is lost, it shall be deleted. The same applies to a construction contract that is terminated.

  • Delete voluntarily registered vessel from NOR

You must delete the vessel from NOR when it is transferred to a new ship registry, sold abroad for scrapping, has been scrapped, has been wrecked, or is destroyed. For vessels that are not subject to mandatory registration, you can request deletion at any time. Want to know more? See for deleting non-mandatory registrable vessels here.

  • Deleting a vessel 15 meters or longer from the Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR)

Deletion from NOR must occur when the ship is transferred to a new registry, sold abroad for scrapping, has been scrapped, wrecked, or destroyed. Ships that are bareboat chartered out should not be deleted from the ship registry. See the documentation requirements for deletion from NOR here.

  • Deletion of a ship from the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS)

Deletion from the NIS must occur when the ship is transferred to a new registry, sold abroad for scrapping, has been scrapped, wrecked, or destroyed.
