Do you or your company have an idea or a project involving new technology? Are you wondering whether there is relevant legislation for your technology? The NMA's Section for New Maritime Technology brings together expertise across specialist departments and makes it easier to go for green solutions.
The change towards greener solutions will affect future technology choices at sea. The development within digitalisation, automation and green alternatives keeps getting faster, and the NMA wants to be a driving force behind this development. At the NMA, we have gained broad experience and relevant expertise within new technology, which enables us to assist the industry and authorities in Norway and abroad.
Guidance
We appreciate that it can be difficult to become familiar with the maritime legislation.
As an administratuive agency, the NMA has a general duty to provide guidance, cf. the Public Administration Act. This means that we will help you identify applicable rules and options. We will also provide information about the process leading up to a possible approval and any expectations.
Pre-evaluation of design
New technology often challenges existing regulations, and requires an evaluation of alternative design. For evaluation of alternative designs, the NMA offers extended assistance. This is a detailed evaluation where we provide specific feedback on the presented project and let you know the conditions under which we may accept the presented technology on Norwegian vessels.
The service is subject to a fee, the size of the fee depends on the agreed scope.
If the project ends up in a newbuilding/conversion, the fee will be deducted from the initial fee, provided that the vessel is registered in NOR or NIS.
Network
The NMA has a large national and international network in all parts of the maritime industry, and we can help you find relevant partners or environments.
Project management
Once the design is completed and the vessel is to be built, we will create a project team with dedicated project managers, technical resources and surveyors, who will follow your project from start to final approval.
Secrets of the trade
All NMA employees are subject to the provisions of the Public Administration and Freedom of Information Act. Confidential information (such as documents containing trade secrets) is exempt from public disclosure by regulation.
