Shipping is an important contributor to sustainable development. Ninety percent of global trade is transported by ship, which makes shipping crucial for global trade and economic development. Although shipping is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport, its large scale results in several environmental challenges. The NMA works actively to reduce pollution and other environmental impacts from shipping, both nationally and internationally.
