Gulf of Guinea

The maritime security level is maintained on MARSEC/ISPS-level 2.

The NMA maintains ISPS-level 2 for the Gulf of Guinea up to 200 nm from the coastline. The area with increased security level includes sea areas outside Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and south to Libreville in Gabon.

It is recommended to seek news and information from reliable sources and ensure updated and relevant security plans.

Advice on Mitigation Measures:

  • Utilize BMP MS West-Africa in preparations and operations.
  • Conduct security assessments before entering. MDAT-GoG publishes weekly reports and threat assessments for the area.
  • Prepare ship and crew, through planning and exercises.
  • Stay updated with information from MDAT-GoG’s weekly reports and threat assessments for the area.
  • Report to MDAT-GoG in accordance with guidelines.
  • Stay vigilant and maintain a high degree of situational awareness, both underway and at port.
