Sikkerhetsinformasjon i Vest-Afrika (Guineabukta)

Gulf of Guinea

There have been no reported attacks on merchant vessels in the Guld of Guinea in the last period. However, the pirate networks are likely motivated to conduct attacks and the threat in the area remains unchanged.

Based on reported attacks in the eastern part of the Gulf of Guinea, mainly south of Bioko Island (Equatorial Guinea), the area designated for MARSEC/ISPS level 2 is being expanded.

It is recommended to seek news and information from reliable sources and ensure updated and relevant security plans.

Advice on Mitigation Measures:

  • Utilize BMP5 West-Africa in preparations and operations.
  • Conduct security assessments before entering. MDAT-GoG publishes weekly reports and threat assessments for the area.
  • Prepare ship and crew, through planning and exercises.
  • Report to MDAT-GoG in accordance with guidelines.
  • Stay vigilant and maintain a high degree of situational awareness, both underway and at port.
