Black Sea and Sea of Azov
Information about the security situation in the Black sea and Sea of Azov
Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in late February 2022, commercial ships have been hit by projectiles and experienced explosions as a result of the hostilities.
The threat scenario consists of both direct attacks and the risk of collateral damage due to presence in active areas and from miscalculations, misidentification, etc.
There have also been reports of a high risk of mines and several incidents as a consequence of this in the western parts of the Black Sea.
Based on the current threat landscape, the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) is maintaining the maritime security level, MARSEC/ISPS level.
INCREASED SECURITY LEVEL
The NMA is maintaining MARSEC/ISPS level 3 in the northern and western parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
Shipping companies and captains are urged to monitor the situation through reliable sources.
Furthermore, there is a high risk of GNSS and AIS disruptions in both sea areas and the region.
