Notification and reporting duty for accidents and incidents
Accidents, loss of freight containers, digital incidents and ISPS incidents must be reported to the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA). Near-misses should also be reported. Below, you will find a brief description of when and how to make notifications and submit reports.
Do you need assistance?
Notify the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre or a coastal radio station if you need assistance or there is a risk of discharge.
For recreational craft accidents, you may notify the police by calling 112 instead of the above-mentioned bodies.
For discharge or risk of discharge outside Norwegian territorial waters, you must contact the closest coastal state.
If there is no need for assistance, the notification must be given to the NMA's emergency telephone: +47 52 74 50 00 (open 24 hours a day).
Accidents, occupational accidents and near-misses and loss of freight containers
Accidents, occupational accidents and near-misses must be reported using the form KS-0197 and submitted to post@sdir.no within 72 hours of the incident. In the event of the loss of freight containers, the master or the company shall, without undue delay, submit a report on the same form to the Norwegian Maritime Authority

Cyber incidents
Cyber incidents must be reported via the form "Reporting of cyber incident".
ISPS incidents
ISPS incidents must be reported via "Reporting of ISPS incident"
Report injuries or material damage caused by electricity to the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB)
Injuries or material damage caused by electricity must be reported as quickly as possible to the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB).
Report injuries to NAV
If an employee is injured, remember that you have a duty to report it. You can find the relevant forms on NAV's website.
The duty to report to NAV applies to Norwegian and foreign citizens working on ships registered in the Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR). It also applies to Norwegian and foreign citizens living in Norway and employees on ships registered in the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS).
The same applies to citizens of an EEA country, as well as foreign citizens not living in Norway who pay a National Insurance contribution in Norway.
Request supervision or inspection after a breakdown or damage
When a ship or mobile offshore unit has suffered casualty, damage or has deficiencies that require supervision, a request for supervision must be submitted as soon as possible.
For vessels subject to approved companies, the approved company must be contactes for supervision following casualty, damage or faults requiring supervision.
When the supervisory authority has been delegated to a recognised classification society, a separate request must be directed to the classification society.
Report recreational craft accidents
Recreational craft accidents must be reported using the form KS-0602 (pdf).
