  • The following training must have a certificate of proficiency, issued by the course provider, upon completion and passing of the course (incl. update):

    • Basic safety courses tables A-VI/1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 (all)
    • Management in firefighting table A-VI/3

For other courses, a course certificate is issued in accordance with the course provider's own template with correct reference to the rule, paragraph and table in the STCW Convention and reference to a valid letter of approval.

  • There are three approved templates. A general template is used for all other certificates of proficiency issued on behalf of the NMA. All fields in the templates must be filled in.

    What is certificate number?

The certificate number is a serial number, which can have up to 5 digits. The serial number will count consecutively, regardless of the type of course.

    What is authorization number?

In the certificate of approval issued by the NMA, you will find "our reference". This number is the authorization number that you should apply to the certificate of proficiency.

e.g. 2018/32534 (digit after hyphen is not included).

    Course Name

The Norwegian name of the course must be written in the same way as in the Regulations on qualifications and certificates for seafarers

English translations must be written in the same way as in the STCW Convention of 1978, with amendments.

  • The educational institution must prepare an internal description of how the verification of the certificate is to be handled. Necessary information to be able to verify the certificate must be obtained, e.g. certificate number, national identity number or other relevant information, which the educational institution deems necessary.
