Seagoing service for the first time application M4
We approve seagoing service as e.g. ship engine mechanic, machine keeper and ship engine mechanic apprentice earned in a specially attached engine room that includes
Seagoing service from movable installations :Seagoing service accrued on a mobile facility without its own propulsion is used to maintain the current certificate class.
Seagoing service accrued on a mobile facility with its own propulsion is used to renew and apply for a higher certificate.
Positions on mobile facilities:
Seagoing service must be earned with the following job titles in order to be issued a certificate:
- Engine Room Operator
- Technical assistant
- Technical Manager

Anyone who has passed the M4 education can complete systematic training. All questions about web cadets should be directed to your training office.
You must at least hold a diploma for M4 before you start systematic training. At least four months (120 days) of seagoing service with systematic training must have been earned after the final diploma has been issued, for the certificate you are applying for.

How to renew if the certificate has expired
If the certificate has expired, the certificate can be renewed if you can document 12 months of seagoing service in a position subject to a certificate in the last 5 years at the time of application.
Redundant position
Is a position on board that is not part of the safety crew, e.g. extra engineer
The re-training course and certificate testThe re-training course and certificate test is a refresher of the professional competence for navigators who have not sailed in a position subject to a certificate for a minimum of 12 months (360 days) in the last 5 years. By completing the re-training course, or the certificate test, you will also cover the requirement for ERM competence.
