You can find all the requirements for the various certificates here:
For the first time application as a sailor:
We approve seagoing service from the deck of seagoing ships.
If you do not have seagoing service from deck on seagoing ships, you must attach more documentation from the captain/company, for example that you have had relevant seagoing service from deck even though the ship has been in trade area 2. Seagoing service from ships that are equipped to operate in a trade area higher than 2, or from ships that are approved to receive seafarer apprentices. You can register a separate application for a Certificate of Proficiency for a Rescue Craft at the same time as you apply for a Certificate of Proficiency for a Sailor.
For the first time application for bridge watch:
We approve seagoing service from the deck of seagoing ships.
If you do not have seagoing service from deck on seagoing ships, you must enclose more documentation from the captain/company, for example that you have had watchkeeping duties and/or that you have had relevant seagoing service from deck even though the ship has been in trade area 2.For students on school ships, documentation of 60 days of special training from a bridge/bridge watch will be sufficient seagoing service documentation.
Bridge watch checklist - Norwegian Maritime Authority -
If you are a holder of a Certificate of Proficiency as a sailor, you do not need a Certificate of Proficiency as a bridge watchman. This is because you have already documented that you meet the requirements for obtaining a certificate of proficiency as a bridge watchman when issuing a certificate of proficiency as a sailor.
-
If you have a bridge watch certificate (STCW-95) that has expired, you must apply for the certificate again. We need a new completed checklist signed by the captain on board. It is not necessary to document seagoing service a second time.
