Become an instructor for high-speed courses
Information on how to become an instructor for high-speed courses.
I want to become an instructor for the high-speed course
The NMA does not approve instructors. It will be the approved providers who will ensure that the instructors they use meet the requirements set out in the regulations.
The requirements for instructor (practical part) for high-speed certificates are:
- Deck officer Class 5 Pleasure Craft
- a valid health certificate for a Deck officer Class 5 Pleasure Craft licence that is not older than two years
- Valid safety training course (pdf)
- relevant experience with high-speed vessel type to be taught
- completed an instructor course in accordance with guidelines laid down by the Norwegian Maritime Authority. (pdf)
- The age limit for completing the instructor course is 20 years
Instructors for personal watercraft are exempt from the requirements in the first subsection nos. 1 and 3, but must at least have a boating licence and be able to document competence in first aid that covers the first aid part of the safety training course described in number 3.
An instructor of the theoretical part must, like the instructor of the practical part, have broad competence.
The instructor for the theoretical part must therefore as a minimum meet the following requirements:

- completed theoretical part of an instructor course in accordance with guidelines laid down by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.
- The age limit for completing the instructor course is 20 years
