Our own translators, Ann-Helén Langaker and Merete Løberg, have been working to capacity in order to update the English translations of the NMA's Regulations. The formidable efforts that have been put into this became visible for everyone now at the end of October, when 50 new and updated translations were published on our home page.

– This has been an important and comprehensive job – not only with regard to the translation itself but also to making the Regulations available online, says Linda Bruås, Head of Section for Legislation and Contracts at the NMA.

Bruås points out that having the Regulations available in English will also play an important part in convincing more shipowners to opt for the Norwegian flag and to highlight Norway as a maritime host country. This is emphasised by Tone Olsen Risnes, Senior Adviser in the Department of Ship Registration at the NMA.

– The industry has previously pointed out that the information in English on our website has been lacking, and we are certain that the translated legislation and its availability online will be well received, says Risnes.

The NMA are furthermore currently working on improving the functionality and the availability of the legislation on the website. Until this has been completed, you will find the Regulations under Legislation–Regulations (where you can sort the Regulations alphabetically or chronologically) as well as under the specific topics, where relevant Regulations have been linked up to the topic.
