Previously, seafarers were obliged to meet in person at a Norwegian embassy or consulate to have their national certificates endorsed for service on Norwegian flagged vessels. Shipping companies have requested a more practical and cost-effective solution in dialogue with the NMA.

The Norwegian Maritime Authority has responded with a new online service launched this week. It is now no longer necessary to use a Norwegian embassy or Norwegian consulate to apply for endorsement for non-Norwegian sea-farers on Norwegian flagged vessels. Applications may be filled in online by the manning agent or the shipping company, resulting in a CRA (Certificate of Receipt of Application) being issued automatically by the system.

More information on this may be found on our web pages for the service.

If the ship-owner has more than one business register number, please inform us which number is used for crewing management, as this will help to avoid unnecessary misunderstanding at the manning agent. Please email this information to Per Otto Årland.
