The new format will also apply to some of the Norwegian Certificate of Proficiency issued under Chapter V and VI of the STCW Convention 1978 as amended.

The Norwegian certificate and national endorsement are issued as a combined document. The flag state endorsement issued in accordance with Regulation I/10, will be in the same format.

The new formats for the Norwegian certificates are available from 1 July 2013.

As a transitional provision pursuant to Regulation I/15 of the 2010 STCW Convention, Norway will continue to issue and renew certificates in accordance with the provisions of the 1995 revision of the STCW Convention until 1 July 2014. These certificates will expire on 31 December 2016.

Certificates will be endorsed in accordance with the provisions of the 1995 revision of the STCW Convention until 31 December 2016.

CoCs and CoPs are issued in two formats. All STCW MA 2010 certificates issued by NMA on permanent basis will be issued in a 'credit card' size plastic format. The new format is in line with our efforts to strengthen the security features of our certificates and thereby curb the proliferation of fraudulent certificates. Moreover, the authenticity of said certificates can be verified on The Norwegian Maritime Authority's website.

CoPs issued on behalf of NMA will have a uniform layout, and are provided with the issuing organisation's accreditation number.

After 1 January 2017 all renewable Norwegian certificates will be issued in the new formats.
