Secretary General Richard Schiferli expressed the view of the Committee that this decision demonstrated the importance to the Paris MoU of environmental awareness and compliance, especially regarding prevention of air pollution from ships.

Othe issues debated during the 49th annual committee meeting were the upcoming CIC on MLC this fall, the methodology of calculation of Flag performance and the responsibilities delegated to the Recognized Organizations (RO).

- Together the member countries of Paris Mou are developing the quality of the inspection regime. The results are clearly visible in the increased quality of vessels visiting our ports. We are satisfied with the environemental focus on MARPOL requirements to prevent air pollution from ships, says section head Alf Tore Sørheim of the Norwegian Maritime Authoritys section for Inspection and preparedness.
