-The fact that NIS experiences an increase both in tonnage and in number of ships is a positive sign, especially when we also see an increase in NOR for the commercial fleet segment. This demonstrates that the Norwegian flag has become more attractive over the last years and the Norwegian Maritime Authority is thus fulfilling our vision of becoming the preferred maritime administration, says acting director general Mr. Lars Alvestad.

«Oslo Bulk 8» and «Oslo Bulk 10» were both flagged in from Singapore on Monday. Tuesday, the sistership «Bulkskip 9» followed and flagged in from Singapore to NIS. As suggested by their names, they are regular bulk carriers, with a gross tonnage of 5 629 each. The vessels were built in China in 2011. After the last registration of «Bulkskip 9», there are now a total of 7 vessels in the bulk carrier fleet flying the NIS flag and another three are waiting to hoist the Norwegian flag.  «Oslo Bulk 1, 2 and 3» have all announced the intent to register during September this year.

-This is so much fun, says Tone Risnes, Senior Adviser at the Dept. Ship Registers. She points out that to be able to be part of a fleet increase, is what we have worked for over many years.

The NIS total is now 644 vessels and earlier this month, it passed a tonnage of 16 million gross tons.
