    • Norwegian citizenship
    • Working on vessels

Other nationals receive their identity card/Sea Service Book from the country of which they are citizens, but can be issued a Record of Service from the Norwegian authorities for registration of sea service time from Norwegian vessels.

  • A public document for foreign citizens to register their sea service time on Norwegian vessels. There is no obligation on the seafarer to hold a Record of Service. However, it is a right for those seafarers who want this document to have one.

Record of Service can be obtained at a Norwegian foreign service mission or at the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (Information is in Norwegian).

Upon issuance the seafarer must present a valid passport or other authorized proof of identification, and documentation proving that the/she is working on board a Norwegian registered vessel.
